SO Tired....

Anyone have any suggestions for sleeping arrangements for a SMALL 3 bedroom house with 2 parents, a five year old, a two year old, and a seven month old?
First we had 5 and 2 in bunk beds...worked but we were putting them to bed at 8 but they were "talking" and "fighting" until 10 or 11, but still waking up at 6am. This made for extremely crabby days.
As much as I didn't want to I moved the baby's crib in our room unbunked the beds and gave 5 and 2 their own rooms. 2 keeps waking up discovering he is alone and crying. The baby seems to wake up every time I roll over in my sleep!!!
So tired and out of ideas!

Oh but they are so cute!

  1. that is so tough. my girls are 5 and 3 and share a room and we deal with the talking/playing stuff too. i allow a certain amt, telling myself they are building a relationship and memories that will last a long time, the other part of me knows what happens when kids don't sleep enough! what we've started (and has worked pretty well) is telling the girls that if they're playing around and being too loud they will not get any morning tv, and if one is bugging the other who is trying to sleep we let the quiet child fall asleep in our bed and the loud child has to sleep alone (which they both hate). hope this helps a little bit!

  2. I would put the 2 older ones back in a room together but have seperate bedtimes. I have a 5 yr old girl and a 2 1/2 year old boy. Although they have seperate rooms, they are right across from each other and they can see the other one from thier beds which triggers giggles, talking, getting up from one bed to another - so we put our youngest to bed between 7:30 and 8:00 and our Daughter has an extra 30 mins of quiet time in the living room and heads off to bed after her brother is sleeping. It's an added perk for our Daughter being the oldest to get the few extra minutes and she goes right to bed when it's time and doesn't wake her brother. Just an idea. Good luck!

  3. I think Anon's idea is a good one and was what I was going to suggest...I wish you all the luck in the world getting the kiddies to bed at a good hour, I have a 3yr old with sleep apnea so I know how it is to have over tired cranky children all day.

  4. We had the same problem. Our solution was to put one of the kids to sleep in our bed and the other one in their bedroom. When the one that was in our bed fell asleep, we'd carry them to their own bed, by which time the other one was usually asleep as well.

  5. I do different bedtimes too, or did, mine are older. I also played a cd of lullabies or classical music (piano) and even have a " sound machine"I still use for the 7 yr old and lightest sleeper of the bunch, ocean waves have worked for all three of my boys. Good luck, they are adorable!
